Latest News on Iran–US–Israel War Ceasefire

War

New issues regarding the sustainability of the existing ceasefire have arisen with new military strategies coming into the limelight. US defence officials are reportedly preparing contingency plans to disrupt the operational presence of Iran in and around the Strait of Hormuz in case the truce collapses citing several sources.

These are reported to involve quick, circumstantial targeting of marine assets within the Strait of Hormuz, the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It targets smaller, more mobile platforms like fast patrol boats and ships that may lay mines-resources that can be employed to interfere with shipping routes and exert pressure on world trade routes.

The Strait of Hormuz has been back in the limelight of what is being termed as a growing maritime conflict. Trump, in a recent social media statement, instructed US forces to retaliate against any Iranian ships that tried to block navigation in the region. He also pointed out that efforts are being intensified to de-mine the sea to eliminate any possible naval hazards.

In the meantime, the US Department of Defense verified the interception of an oil tanker, Majestic X, in the Indian Ocean.
According to the officials, the maritime enforcement will be maintained to ensure that networks that assist Iran acts freely in the sea are not allowed to operate freely.

This comes after a recent event where Iranian troops interacted with three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz where there were allegations of the seizure of two of the vessels. The relocation has raised the fear of the safety of a waterway through which almost 20 percent of all oil exports are transported to the world. The US blockade of Iranian ports has further contributed to the tension, an action that Tehran has highly condemned terming it a form of aggression.

But in spite of these measures, the White House has adopted a calculated position and has pointed out that the occurrences do not technically amount to a breach of the ceasefire since the ships that were involved in the events were not associated with the US or Israel. The situation is however delicate with the two sides on high alert.

Meanwhile, humanitarian conditions in southern Lebanon are becoming more and worse. It has been reported that the recent strikes have already claimed several lives including that of a journalist who was named Amal Khalil. Lebanese officials are likely to express grievances about mass destruction of homes in the areas around its borders, which Israel is continuing to insist on as its security operations against the Hezbollah posts.

Ceasefire Under Pressure

Even though diplomatic activity is ongoing, the fact that military preparedness is on par implies that no one is sure of a stable situation in the long term. The continued tactical operations in the sea and in the major areas show that the on land situation is still dynamic.

The fact that several areas are involved such as the Gulf and Lebanon further complicates the situation and makes the war conflict even bigger than it is presently. Control of strategic points and trade routes creates disturbance in every shipping and it would be hard to find a suitable solution.

Meanwhile, the speed of diplomatic development is lower than the speed of problems are developing. This week connection between negotiations and is become a major issue among the all the region.
